 Thus, began the days of heartbreak. Every day, Ravana would come to visit Sita. He would longingly look at her and try to convince her to accept his love. Every day, Mahiti would witness this from close range and sigh! It broke her heart into a thousand pieces every time she saw her king request Sita and wait for her positive response, which never happened! Her heart ached more than Ravana’s every single day. She even tried to talk to Sita to convince her to marry her hero Ravana. But Sita wouldn’t budge!

 Isn’t destiny strange? Mahiti’s love for Ravana never reached him, just as Ravana’s love for Sita never reached her! Mahiti fought her tears every single moment of being near Sita. She knew Sita was divine, pure and much in love with her husband Rama. But Mahiti’s love for Ravana was much stronger and deeper than she couldn’t see Ravana’s heartache! She wanted Ravana to live happily with Sita.

 Soon, Hanuman came and this gave Mahiti some hope. She saw Hanuman promising Sita to take her to Rama. She had heard enough of Hanuman to know that he wouldn’t break his promise. Mahiti hoped against hope that Sita would escape Ravana’s captivity so that she would try her chance to find a place in Ravana’s heart. She knew it was a long call, but she had hope. That was love!

 When Rama came, the war broke out. Mahiti realized that Lakshmana wouldn’t leave Ravana alive. She fought mightily for her king’s love, though she only wanted Sita out of his life. When Ravana was killed, she didn’t shed tears. She knew his king wouldn’t have survived without Sita near him. She knew he would have died of a broken heart the moment Rama took her away.

 Mahiti lived a few more years, back with her parents. She never smiled again! She’d lost her smile long back, somewhere between Ravana and Sita. She’d lost her love long back, somewhere in Ravana’s longing eyes for Sita. Mahiti didn’t survive either, not long after she lost her love, her king, Ravana, forever!
