Ravana’s respect towards artists

Just as the minister was about to pick the painting from Mahiti to take it closer to the king, she stopped him and demanded to show it herself. Ravana respected artists immensely and this particular painting had already bowled him over. So, he let Mahiti bring the painting closer to him. Mahiti was overwhelmed with joy. She was careful, not to commit any stupid act at this moment. She had never even dreamt of getting so close to her Ravana!

Mahiti was not watching her step, her eyes were on Ravana while his was only on her painting, especially, Sita. He couldn’t believe his eyes that someone could have painted such a beautiful picture of Sita in his garden. That too, when no one outside the palace had even seen the divine lady.

Ravana’s eyes widened as Sita’s painting got closer to him. He was already in love with the subject and the painting had absolutely captured Sita’s emotions as well as his attention. Ravana took the painting in his arms and gazed at Sita’s beauty. He felt prouder, having brought her to his kingdom. It didn’t matter to him that she had not yet conceded to his wish to marry her. What mattered more to him was that she was there, in front of him!

That’s exactly what mattered Mahiti too! She knew every bit of her moment that Ravana was only looking at her painting and Sita. She knew that Ravana was oblivious of her presence, let alone her love. But for Mahiti, she was standing there, at that moment, in front of her king. So close that she could hear his heartbeat, his breath! She watched as he blinked his eyes unknowingly. She didn’t blink though. She was living that moment, completely savouring that moment, up close with her beloved king. Something, she had never imagined so far.
