One day she decided that she wouldn’t take it anymore. She had to meet Sita and see for herself to believe what was being rumoured. But how could she even reach near Ravana’s palace? And where would Ravana have hidden her away safely? Mahiti had too many questions! None of her friends could help her with any answers. No one had ever ventured into the King’s compound to know what to expect.

But none of that would stop Mahiti from venturing out to meeting Sita. She had to see the lady for whom her king fell. Mahiti started befriending one of the ladies who worked in the palace.

Mahiti’s parents were worried about the sudden change in her behaviour. She was keeping herself rather secluded in her room, deep in thought about Sita, and her beloved king’s love for the lady. She seemed totally lost, oblivious of the festivities that were being planned in the palace to welcome the lady, though forcefully. Mahiti once happened to hear her parents talk about the preparations going on at the palace and Mahiti decided to take her painting to the palace, to gift her beloved king.

She was not sure how the King would take her version of the palace or Sita. Nevertheless, she wanted to meet the king and see Sita for herself. She couldn’t come to terms with the fact that her beloved King was head-over-heels in love with a married woman and had abducted her. Was she jealous? She was definitely disappointed!

Mahiti was looking for an opportunity to showcase her painting to her beloved king. That’s when she heard the announcement from the palace at the market. The king would reward those who pleased the kingdom with their unique skills and talents. Mahiti wouldn’t miss this opportunity and requested her father to take her to the palace.

Her father was shocked as he or her mother never knew Mahiti was painting Sita. They wondered what made their child, whom they thought was under stress over things they couldn’t understand, paint such a beautiful scenery! They were proud despite the fact that they couldn’t figure out what inspired her to paint it so beautifully. What stunned them more was Sita’s figure, so beautiful, yet divine; pleasant, yet stern. She was everything they had also heard about from the rumours. Mahiti’s father decided to take his daughter to gift the beautiful painting to their king. It was a matter of pride for the entire neighbourhood.

Whoever saw the painting was stunned by the image of the garden and Sita’s beauty. Mahiti was tensed, but determined. She had to visit Sita and know the truth. More than Ravana’s act of abduction, what worried her was Sita’s beauty for which he fell. She was jealous! She had never in her wildest imagination thought that Ravana would do such an act which the entire kingdom would rumour about. She had to be there and see it for herself.
